well I hope you aren't breathing through your nose while you are down there lol, but there is a taste that I suppose is kinda like a smell. The taste in a lap p**p is of nasty chlorine that is kinda like the smell of an old person. That is my best comparison lol

Try going to an ocean, bay, lake, river, or stream and picking up some sand or rocks off the bottom. That ought to give you an idea.

It all depends on what is in the water.  If you want to know, take a sample from some body of water and swirl it around in the container and take a big whiff, like the professional wine tasters.  Unless there is a string present in the air, that's what the smell would be underwater.
