What does it take for college tennis?

I really want to play as a walk-on or non-scholarship tennis player on a D1 school in college. I will play on my high school tennis team this next year and i play usta tournaments regularly. What do colleges look for in players? Do i need a national ranking? Is making the team as a walk-on a challenge? What else do i need to know?
