Do I need to get my name out there while I'm young and compete in big tournaments?

  1. Don't strive to be great like someone else.  Instead, strive to be the best you that you are capable of.  It sounds as though you are commited to the art.  Keep at it.  Discuss with your instructors that you desire to compete and tell them on what level you wish to pursue it.  Hopefully they will guide you towards it.  If not, then learn as much as you can from them while seeking knowledge from others to perfect who you are.  You could be a huge, top name, competitor for many years; but, you will be you for the rest of your life.   ". . . The true science of martial arts means practicing them in such a way that they will be useful at any time, and to teach them in such a way that they will be useful in all things . . .
