  1. To become ASE certified, you must pass an ASE test and have at least two years of relevant full-time hands-on work experience in the motor vehicle service industry.

You may register and take tests (except X1, L1, and L2) before you have two years of experience. You will receive a score report, but you will not earn certification or receive certificates until you fulfill the experience requirement.

You may receive credit for up to one year of the two-year work experience requirement by substituting relevant formal training in school or apprenticeship programs.

  2. ASE( automotive standard of excellence) is a matter of taking a test in what field you want to be ase. There are a number of ase test out there. ASE in engines, ASE in transmissions ASE in heating and air.

YOu don't have to be an engineer to get it.

Going to a automotive school will give you will teach you what you need.

I have 5 myself and it was just a matter of passing the test to become ASE.

Check with any auto parts store and ask for the ASE book. It will tell you what you need to know for the test. Where the test can be taken and how much it cost.
