  1. I think all of those umpire types need to have excellent vision and good physical stamina.  They are the creme de la creme????  Yes you would have to start down at junior footy level like volunteer to be an Umpire (well after you have read the rule book of course) and maybe contact the AFL to ask them how to go about moving upwards to the top.  You do not have to be perfect though.  Look at Kirky's goal that was deemed a point at the weekend.

  2. Change your name to Blind Freddy and you are in with a chance.

  3. Be first class correct all the time.

The goal umpire and boundry umpire were in the right place at the right time for North vs. Sydney. The call was correct.

  4. good eyes and peripheral vision,

    quick thinker

    likes standing

doesn't get sucked in by crowd or players

but you need to start locally and move your way up

  5. Nothing! a fricken half dying cow could be a umpire, umpires are that stupid. i dont think you will need to have any formal qualifications coz ull probably get the job! i would get the job!

  6. WHAT THE HECK IS A 'GOAL UMPRIE'???

I know what a Goal Umpire is, but I have never heard of a 'Goal Umprie'!!!

I would probably suggest that you become a Carlton or Melbourne supporter instead...they cant spell either!!!

    GO THE 'PIES!!!

  7. its not a very easy thing to do.

Goal umpiring positions are the hardest (in terms of popularity) for getting into the AFL.....its hard for me to get goal umpiring on the weekends when I cant do boundary!

You have to start from the bottom, junior footy, and get level one for goal umpiring

If your good at that, they may put you into some more senior matches, then maybe state league div 2 reserves (im going off what they call it up here in queensland)

Then your level 2 and then into state league div one.....then only one step away from the AFL..

sounds easy hey!! but its not, soooooo much competition. One bad move and your GONE!

you must have excellent eye sight, quick judgement and do at least level 7 on a beep test.

read this link from AFL.com.au that I found earlier in the year!

  8. you have to at least be able to spell

    and use a pen

do you have your pen licence yet

  9. you have to be very dumb and spell umpire like umprie.

anyway it is always good to get more umpires in the AFL

plus you get $1000 a game so you also need another job

  10. You have to know the game which you probable do to be an umpire. You have to be able to read the game and know wats going on. But goal umpires are actually a lot harder then field umpires because i am a field umpire myself.

You have to start off at your local club and go from green shirt to orange shirt and then try and work up the lader to national umpiring.

  11. yes an umprie, geez mate, can't help you there as i have never heard of an UMPRIE,  maybe you are in the wrong section, is UMPRIE in the dictionary.?

  12. I am guessing that you don't have to excel at corruption like you do to be a field umpire, but give it time!

  13. What does it take?

    Be a sheila!

The AFL is pandering to the old girls brigade & saturating us with sheilas. It's a mans sport - men only.

Nick off, sheilas! Go back to your knitting & cooking......
