What does it take to be a Ballet dancer?

Question

I want to occupy myself this summer, also get in shape, and I think ballet looks so cool and beautiful when they dance... other than dedication what are the needs?

Also... random but does it make your calves bigger?

You should go to a ballet teacher find out what you'll need and then enroll. You'll have to be extremely dedicated.

ballet is amazing! it takes a lot of dedication, ur right, but it also takes determination, strenght, grace, and power. u must be able to learn! it's a lot of hard work!!! but its worth it!!! i've been taking for about 9 years, 3 years of pointe, and i love it!! u meet so many new people, with the same goals as u! they all love dancing and want to learn more!!!

and yes it makes ur calves extremely strong and defined! but not necessarily really big!! but really strong!!

yes it makes your calves bigger but not that bad...it makes them stronger...

all you have to do is look like you are interested and stay focused...if you are you will be ready...

i have been a ballet dancer for 5 years and i am on point, i have been reconised as the best dancer in the academy...i also teach ballet

you need tights, ballet shoes, hair back in a tight bun, you need to bo streched and dedicated

To take ballet, you need:

- Patience

- Dedication

- Talent

- Hard work

So many people quit ballet at some point...I'm one of them.  And some people just don't have the natural talent, or aren't willing to put in effort.

I'd say go for it! It does get you into shape if you are constantly working at it! I so agree, it is a beautiful style of dance. Although to be a Professional Ballet Dancer you'll need to have extreme dedication and hard training. You can't become a pro over night; it normally takes years for ballet technique and grace to perfect (Hence, 13 years as a ballet dancer). Well, you'll also need to be physically active (I'd suggest going for a run 1/2 every day to start building up your stamina). Next, flexibility, do some stretches that will stretch out your muscles. If you’re not sure what, type YouTube and type in "Ballet Stretches" and something should come up, but remember, if you feel a little pain or uncomfortable that's okay but as soon as you feel excruciating pain, STOP! Not use giving yourself an injury.

I suppose it does make your calves bigger as calves are every important to a dancer as they are one of the main muscles that give them strength to perform mainly jumps (basically almost anything in ballet!). But really, it depends on the individual and how fast they can develop fat into muscle.

If you’re a first timer I'd suggest you visit some ballet websites, like for theory and basic positions, just to familiarize yourself with the basics (which I guarantee you will need!)

well it takes strength, grace, a little skill and it helps to start younger because to actually become good and start getting benefits you have to do it for years. so Really unless you wanna be doing ballet for years there's not much point in doing it. However I encourage you to start and yes it makes your calves bigger. It makes every muscle in your body bigger and stronger
