What does it take to be a good Sherriff?

What does it take to be a good Sherriff? I am old enough to vote finally and I am very excited. I want to vote for a Sheriff so what should I look for. What should a sherriff have in order to be great at his job. I really want to do the right thing!

I agree that a sheriff is more of a political figure than a crime fighter...but his job is still to enforce the laws and to supervise his subordinated (deputies) who also enforce the laws.  Above all vote for the man who has the most honesty and integrity.  Then go with the most experienced in law enforcement.  A sheriff should be firm, fair, and consistent in his enforcement!
