What does it take to be a good cornerback?

Because i am trying out for my high school football team and i have never played that before.(keep in mind i am only a freshmen)

Speed, confidence, and a short memory :)

Seriously, speed is very important, as you are covering the other team's fastest player.  Height, fast hands, good jumping ability are others.  You also need to be able to read other players quickly, and be able to shake off your mistakes easily.
