I'm a senior in highschool and I'm looking for what I want to do with my life. I was thinking about becoming a pediatrician and I would like to know if I'm capable of getting into med school. I have a 3.0 GPA and I got a 970 on my SATs. I know that's not the best but is it possible for me to major in biology and then apply to med school later if I bring my GPA up and obviously my SATs because they are horrible.

  1. I'm not sure you quite understand the concept of med school... you can't apply right out of high school.  You have to go through an undergraduate program and earn your bachelor's first.

Med school couldn't care less about your high school grades.  They're only interested in your undergraduate GPA and your MCAT scores.

Once you're accepted to a college, your high school GPA basically just goes away.  It doesn't factor into your college GPA at all.  As long as you  can manage to get in to an undergrad program, you're basically getting a clean slate, grade-wise.

  2. try to double major in chem and bio ... if you do well in those 2 BS degrees, then get kick-*** MCAT scores, you should be able to get into a good med school ...  take lots of math, do volunteer work, research entry criteria for the med schools you are interested in, and start studying for the MCAT early ...

try to meet alumni of the med schools you are interested and get internships and work towards letters of recommendation from them ...  more than grades and standardized test scores are required for a good med school ...
