More specifically, how much math does it take? I have taken up to pre-calculus, and I will take a few more courses if needed, but I want to know how much math- more than just basic math- is used in an accounting career.

  1. you have to be decent at math.precalculus is plenty.you just need basic math. but dont go to heAld or devry. places wont hire you if u go there. i went to both.graduated with a's and b's and job places say i dont have enough experience.

  2. Accounting requires basic math, primarily Accounting courses.  Through precalculus is fine, they will teach you what else you need to know in courses such as Financial Management, Statistics, Business Math, and Methods for Business Decisions or other courses in college if you choose to major in Accounting.

A Bachelor's is fine although most people choose to pursue an extra year or more of a Master's to get their CPA license.  However, you still need to have a couple of years experience in the right position to take the test and get the license.  Good luck!

  3. You will probably need to take Statistics as well. If you did okay in PreCalculus, you should be fine in Statistics. For a BS, it is usually College Algebra and Statistics. Beyond that, some Doctorate programs in Accounting require Calculus II.

If you are looking for a regionally accredited BS in Accounting via on-line studies which is inexpensive, I would recommend WGU's program at http://www.wgu.edu/business/accounting_b... . They are regionally accredited by Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. From their web site:

    Regionally and Nationally Accredited

Western Governors University is regionally accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, one of the major accrediting commissions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The Northwest Commission is also responsible for the accreditation of other major institutions such as the University of Washington, University of Oregon, Gonzaga University, University of Utah, University of Idaho, and BYU, to name just a few. Although regional accreditation is considered the highest form of accreditation, WGU is also nationally accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC).

    Good luck!
