  1. To be a real archeologist involves undertaking a doctoral degree and being a full professor in a university and/or resident scholar at a govt or private organization (which usually involves first being a professor so you meet the credentials).  You would major in archeology or anthropology as the undergrad level, then (if your grades are good enough) apply to a grad Ph.D program in archeology -- best to attend a school with a program that follows the specific area of interest you have.  Following that, you would take a post-doctoral fellowship of several years to specialize before applying for an assistant professor position.  Field is extremely competitive.
