  1. The Dancer believes that his art has something to say which cannot be expressed in words or in any other way than by dancing. There are times when the simple dignity of movement can fulfill the function of a volume or words. There are movements wich impinge upon the nerves with a strength that is incomparable, for a movement has power to stir the senses & emotions, unique in itself. This is the Dancer's justification of being, & his reason for searching further for deeper aspects of his art. [

  2. pain, sweat and tears.  its an exhausting and hard life.  but a wonderful one if you get the right breaks.

  3. wow, advanced 1 already? I'm 16 and have only just done grade 6 =/

To be a teacher, R.A.D. hold a training course lasting several years, details might be on the website.

The auditions aren't impossible, you just have to have what they are looking for - potential.  Almost anybody is trainable under strict regime, but they are looking for a born performer, someone who stands out.  It doesn;t really matter if you can do a 180 degree arabesque, that can be taught.

What cannot be taught are all the emotional tactics - the ability to sustain a role and make it your own, a connection and empathy for your character, expression, communication, owning the music, the moment...make the audience cry! [Though obviously not if its a comedy!]

When the South Bank Show did a feature on Margot fonteyn a few years ago, somebody at the company who had worked there when she was first recognised remarked: 'she had the curious quality of making you want to cry, even if she was doing something funny'.  Its that deeper level of the performance that will make it special.

...and of course, you need steely determination I'm afraid!

  4. guts....z....

  5. If you are interested in teaching ballet Intermediate foundation is required and intermediate recommended. Further examinations are also highly viewed.

I recommend having experience in the dance Field, such as dancing as a profession in shows as it will give you a broader view before your teaching. My dance teacher did many 6 month contracts working on cruise ships doing 2 shows a day. It really requires determination.

  6. u have to have lots of energy smile know how to perform ability level and stuff like that not sure of qualifications for dance teacher and not all dance schools require auditions only the more serious ones so think about that 2

  7. Genetics, a 'dream', and, iron discipline.

  8. you must do a lot of auditions to understand if you can become a dancer...to become a good teacher you must be a good dancer...because you mustn't explain only the theory..you must explain also the secrets...your experience...or the guys can learn dance also from the books...

  9. A lot of hard work and dedication I was a dancer

  10. Anyone doing Ballet usually trains from a very young age, and it has to be a vocation because of the nature of the dance and the long and often back breaking hours needed to get to the very top. As to being a dance teacher well i would say the same applies. Dedication to the craft, a supreme level of fitness and a single minded attitude.

  11. Two legs

  12. I'm not sure about RAD but ISTD takes about 3 years to train to be a teacher. You need to have passed ISTD intermediate and Advanced 1 then do your FDI (foundation in dance instruction) and CDE(certificate in dance education) There are plenty of dance colleges and uni's that do these. Also go onto RAD's website and email them for info into their techer training. Good luck with whatever you choose.
