I was wondering what it takes to become a jockey. How much do you have to weigh? I weigh 111 and I'm 16 years old. How tall can you be? I am 5ft 4in right now. Hoping not to grow anymore. My horse has a quarter horse's speed but is 17hh. She is half quarter horse and I never fall off of her unless she bucks, but she's never had the chance to run her fastest with me. I let a professional trainer get on her(with his heavy roping saddle by the way) and we wached how fast she went. He said she was very fast. Ok so I'm rambling, now back to the question. Anything you can tell me like how I get into it, the tests, etc. would be great. Thanks.

  1. You would have 2 be able 2 hold yourself up. And you would need 2 know when 2 urge the horse on... I dont excactly know the weight limit and height 2 be a jock...sorry...but i do know that you would have 2 be able 2 control your horses speed, thats very important in a race. Because you need 2 know when you should save your horses energy, most horses speed up and go past the others in a race towards the end to win. But thats about all i could tell you.

  2. skill, dedication and being short doesn't exactly hurt either...

  3. you have to be a great athlete (football, basketball, baseball, and soccer players pale, in comparison)...courage, also, as the risks to ones body are ongoing, both on and off the track.

  4. Most of the ones I have seen are around 5'2 or so. You sound like you have the stature I would start by seeing if I could get a stable hand job at a local breeding farm or racing stable. If anything people there could start pointing you in the right direction that is for sure. Good Luck
