  1. First you need a computer with spell check.

  2. Education & Training

In order to practice as a physical therapist, you must earn a master’s or doctoral degree from an accredited physical therapy education program, and then pass a licensing exam.

Before you can apply to a physical therapy program, you must earn a bachelor’s degree. Most schools accept students with bachelor’s degrees in any subject. However, it is important to take courses in areas such as anatomy, biology, chemistry, physics, statistics, and psychology.

Once you have obtained your bachelor’s degree, you will be eligible to apply to a physical therapy program. There are two types of programs: master’s degree programs and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs. Although both will prepare you for a career as a physical therapist, more and more students are choosing to complete the DPT. Both types of programs include a combination of coursework and supervised clinical experience. They usually take 2 to 4 years to complete.

After completing the master’s or doctoral degree, you must pass a licensing exam approved by your state. Continuing education may be required to maintain licensure. This usually involves taking professional development courses and workshops.

    Other Suggested Qualifications

It’s a good idea to check out volunteer opportunities at local clinics. This will give you valuable experience and insight into the field. In addition, volunteer experience is required for admission to many physical therapy education programs.

Physical therapists need strong communication skills and a desire to help others. Manual dexterity is also important. In high school, you should take upper level courses in math, English, and science.

  3. The second answer had plenty of info.

I just thought I would add that there are also PT assistants. (PTA)

PTA's are offered through 2 year programs at many community colleges.

Some people get there PTA and practice for a while and then go back for entry into a Master's level PT program.

You may do this and find out you are happy being a PTA just fine and not want to pursue the masters.

I am an OT assistant. The salary is good (50K) and I can focus on working with the people, not constant evals and paperwork like an Occupational Therapist has to.

The link below is the American PT Association and might get you started in the right direction.
