I am a senior in high school,

and I know that I eventually want to become some sort of surgeon.

I'm set on Pediatric surgery,

or general.

How long does it take to become either of these,

and how many years will I spend in college.

Will my salary be worth it in the end?

  1. ask your principle, or careers advisor,im pretty sure you got to become a gp first then later you can specialize, head to become a doctor and your almost there, see you in 5 years

  2. i'd start with getting a phd, usually helps with being a dr.

  3. about 8 years in college or more depending on your choice of specialty . you are going to add about 3 years or more for the pediatric because the surgery itself is more delicate (smaller parts, risk of blood loss greater) and you salary will depend on where you choose to work

around 100,000 -300,000 a year is a good estimate.IF you set your goals and work hard you can do it , but be prepared for alot of classes and alot of homework!!!!  it takes alot of work because someones life rests in your hands. Just one question , are you prepared to deal with the fact you cant save them all , and at least one ime in your acreer at least 1 child will die, even though youve done everything you possibly could!   just wanting you to make an informed choice!!!!

  4. 4 years college, 4 years medical school, about 4 years residency to be a surgeon. If you have the means to fund 12 years of education, go for it. The pay will be worth it.
