  1. You must complete at least 2-4 years of an undergraduate degree before you can apply to a veterinary school, then you must be accepted into a College of Veterinary Medicine. This professional course of study is 4 years.  Internships and residencies are optional and are not necessary if you would like to be a general practitioner.  If you would like to become board certified in a specialty area; surgery, neurology, dermatology, radiology, etc. then you must complete an internship and a residency in your specialty. The application process is stringent.  This link will take you to the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine site designed for students with an interest in applying to veterinary school.  It will answer all your questions.  http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/prospectiveStu...

  2. A four-year (bachelor's degree) in college, plus four years of veterinary medicine school
