I was watching the dark knight a couple of days ago and saw the tumbler. I researched it on the web and found out engineers made it. So to make your own car (street legal or not) would you need a degree in mechanical engineering and has anyone heard of people building completely custom cars alot because I also found an add of someone doing that in the du Pont registry magazine.

  1. It can be done with a strong mechanical/electrical background. I would say you don't need a degree, but you should know how to figure out how strong the frame would need to be and such. Most likely, the guys who built the Tumbler did have a degree. I've been thinking about the Bat-Pod and how I would like to build one some day.

Building something like a vehicle can be very simple, or very complex depending on what you would want it to do. You could build a Go-Kart very easily with the right tools. But when you start adding things like suspension, or air conditioning and lights, that's when it can be a headache if not properly planned.
