I recently moved to The Woodlands to be with my fiance. I am amazed at how hard it is to get a teaching job here. I have 6 years of experience and worked for 2 excellent schools in Dallas. I have strong credentials with good references. Do you have to know someone in order to get into Conroe ISD? I am starting to think this, since my background in teaching doesn't seem to be helping me. Thanks to anyone who might know!

  1. The problem is the economy.  So many people have left their corporate jobs, by choice or by force, and have fallen back on an old teaching certificate, or have gotten alternatively certified.  We will post a job, and within an hour, we have 150 applicants.  Unfortunately, that means that there are many fantastic candidates that aren't even interviewed, simply because the principals can't interview more than a handful.

Although Conroe ISD is not exaclty a "small community" at almost 49,000 students and 6000+ employees, I would agree with Guest8918's suggestion for substituting first.  Having been a principal in Conroe ISD, we were very quick to hire a substitute before anyone else because we had seen them in action and because they kids in the school were already familiar with their face.  It's a much smoother transition for the school.

Keep your eyes on the online job board.  We post jobs as soon as the vacancy becomes available, and we take them down as soon as we fill the position, so what you see on the job board is the most current, up-to-date information.  I wish you the very best of luck!
