What does it take to impeach a Supreme Court Justice? besides infirmity?

one of our Justices has passed out and fallen on the red button (which signifies his vote against expanding human rights). Quick,what do we do?

  1. You cannot impeach an official (any official) of the government because you disagree with his politics. The Constitution states the reasons for impeachment are "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors," (US Constitution). So, basically, one has to break the law. A Supreme Court member has never been impeached, however one did resign as a result of the threat of impeachment. Only two US Presidents have been impeached, Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. There have been a dozen or so federal judges that were impeached and some were convicted.

    Again, the Supreme Court members are appointed by the President and approved by the Senate so he/she was placed there. His/her politics do not necessarily represent yours. They are simply meant to look at the legality of things, however in reality, politics do have a big place at the highest bench of the land. "Expanding human rights" is a fairly vague vote but if he/she did break the law, he/she could be subject to impeachment.


  2. It's exceedingly hard to do. High crimes and misdemeanors, I believe and impeachment.
