Ok here's how it is.. I live in colorado and im a Junior in High school. Im a lefty pitcher and will probably be the number 2 starter on Varsity this year. By spring i should have my fastball up to about 82-83 mph and my offspeed pitches are decent. I know i have no chance to play D1 college ball but what does it take to play D2 and does it help that im a lefty??

  1. Of course it helps that you're a lefty.  Look at Mesa State, in your home state of Colorado: Their current 2009 roster includes four left-handed pitchers (two of them seniors) and fourteen righties (seven seniors)... that means that going into what would be your freshman year, 2010, they currently have 2 lefties and 7 righties ready to go.

For a pitcher, especially if your fastball tops out in the low eighties, pitching is like real estate: Location, location, location.  You're going to want to work on that a lot, develop your offspeed stuff as far beyond "decent" as you can (I'd say at least have a changeup you can throw for strikes and a curveball that will make batters swing.)  If you work on one thing, work on control.  If you work on two things, work on control and movement.

Then head over to http://www.mesamavs.com/sb_output.aspx?f... and let them know you'd love to talk to them about playing D2 ball.

  2. believe in yourself

  3. Well your just a junior in high school so maybe you can develop a little more speed on the fastball before you graduate. Lefty's always have some chance to get somewhere because baseball is a right handed dominate league...It's like submarine pitching. a submarine pitcher who pitches well will is harder to hit than an over the hand pitcher because the batters see overhand pitchers most of the time...also...think about tom glavine and greg maddux and randy johnson...during their good years, they through 92-98 MPH...now they dont throw nearly as hard but they are still having success...placement is key

  4. if you can do alot of things with left then you can play games hope i helped
