What does late edition mean?

  1. It means the evening edition, so it won't be the edition that is delivered early in the morning, but rather during the day, so it's more up to date and accurate. Only very big papers/news companies do this, as it;s more cost-effective (usually) just to save it until the next day's edition - unless the news is very big and exclusive!

It simply means the "most recently released edition" of news, informattion, a magazine, a book, other publication of information in any other format (electronic, data, CD, DVD,  or through other media such as Radio and Telivision). Thus being derived from the term "the latest edition" or release of whatever information.

    It seems to "sound exactly the opposite" of what the words usually means. But, if you think about it, "it is the latest to arrive;" and, therefore, it  is of the most up to date than the  earlier or sooner editions.
