  1. limited registration means that you don't have permission to breed that dog. So if you were to breed that dog, you wouldn't be able to register the puppies or sell them with papers.

  2. It means that any offspring from the dog cannot be AKC registered.

Good Breeders put that in usually in conjunction with a clause that requires spaying/neutering.

But, bad breeders use limited registration to make money when people pay extra get breeding rights for the pup.  If this breeder allows full registration for all of their pups based on a fee rather than the quality of the dog, then this is a backyard breeder or puppy mill and you should find a new breeder.

In addition, it also means that the dog cannot be shown in a breed event like conformation.  It can be shown in companion events like agility or herding instead.

Added:  It's not a sign of a good breeder necessarily.  Many puppy mills and BYB's do this to prevent competition in the marketplace.

  3. Than means your dog is not meant to be bred.  Only Full Registration can be bred or shown in conformation.

With a LP (Limited Privledge) you can show you spayed/neutered dog in Obedience, agility, earthdog, rally-o & tracking.

  4. Dogs sold on limited AKC registration are not meant to be bred -- if you breed this dog, its offspring cannot be AKC registered.

  5. Limited means that the dog is ineligible for conformation shows..  and also any offspring are not eligible for AKC registration.

It means the breeder intends for this dog to be spayed and neutered and not used for breeding.  Ussually when a dog is sold with limited registration, there is also a spay/neuter contract between the buyer and the breeder as well.

  6. It means you can't show the dog in conformation and you can't breed the dog -technically, you can't register any pups the dog might produce.

Breeders want to make sure their pups aren't going into a home where the buyer has alterior motives.

No one that cares about their dogs wants their pups used to supply a pet store or otherwise.

It says to me that this breeder is responsible and caring.
