What does <email private> mean after inviting people to group?

I have invited people to join our group. Some have not join ed but now have <email private> next to their name. What does this mean? Have they "turned off" their email access so to speak?

  1. it means the group settings allow &quot;Members can hide email address&quot; and they chose to hide it
