The English name monsoon, was derived from the Arabic word mausim, the Malayan word monsin, or Asiatic word mawsim meaning 'seasons'.[3] The definition includes major wind systems that change direction seasonally.

The South Asian monsoon affects larger number of people due to the high density of population in this part of the world.
