I am an American soon to be married to an Australian. I have been an industrial mechanic for 6 years. Best I can figure the terminology in Australia for that occupation is a turner and a fitter I am trying to find out what I need to do to be able to work in Australia. Every job web site I have looked at says must be trade qualified. What does this mean and do I have to re-certify over there? If anyone could help me out with this I would be very grateful

  1. tO BE TRADE QUALIFIED JUST MEANS THAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE A TRADE WHETHER IT BE PAINTING AND DECORATING CERTIFICATES OR ENGINEERING, COMPUTERS AND SO ON.....

    GOOD LUCK

  2. Some trades do not allow transfer of certification so you may need to resit an exam or something. I am not Australian but I would recommend getting in touch with the trade body that issues the qualification you will need. To find this you could  search the internet to find which qualifications other mechanics have so that you know who to contact.

Alternatively the Australian embassy where you are should be able to help and put you in touch with the right people and they usually like you to have this all setup before you go to Australia.

    Good luck

  3. Trade qualified means you have completed a trade course and qualified or passed the final exam and got necessary certificate.

www.tra.gov.au   or www.workcover.gov.au        got your information.

I think you have to asses your certifacate and experiance through TRA
