  1. Under federal law,you have to be sixteen to work in most non farm jobs.And since the child is still in school,he/she can only work four hours a day.

    In most states,you (the parent) can go in person to the school counselor or to the school district administration office and ask for a Workers Permit Application. The youngest a child can be employed is fourteen. The parent fills out and signs the application,then submits it to your State Employment Commission,or State Department of Labor.

    When the permit arrives,the child must submit a photo copy with every application he/she fills out.The permit must be used till the child reaches sixteen.
