    hmm...

  3. A degree is not needed to homeschool. Look up your state's Department of Education website to find the particulars of what you state requires of homeschooling families.

thumbs down? guess what? reality is not based on what you'd prefer.

  4. Any parent, no matter how uneducated, can home school their child. It would be good if a parent had a college degree in education but is not required.

  5. It doesn't.  You're not even required to have one in order to homeschool your child.  In many states you're required to have a high school diploma or GED, but that's it.

In some states, I believe you will be required to have either a Bachelor Degree of some sort or go under the covering of an umbrella school in order to homeschool during high school, but most states don't have that restriction.  If you can let us know which state you're in, we can tell you the specific requirements and regulations.

  6. Our state requires high school diploma or ged.

  7. You don't need a degree. That has to be the biggest homeschooling urban myth of all time!

Some places (in the US) require you to have completed high school as one of their stated options for homeschooling; usually they'll also offer other options such as signing up with an 'umbrella school' as a way to circumvent the need for the supervising parent to have a year 12 high school education.

(Incidentally there is research that shows that kids still do better when homeschooled by parents who themselves failed to complete high school than they would be expected to do if they were to go to school)

  8. Most states do not require a degree, and even those that do usually have alternatives such as being under the supervision of a certified teacher.

You need to find out the laws for your state, go to http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp and look at your state, the teacher qualifications will tell you what qualifications you need, and the file will also tell you about other regulations.

  9. While it's true that most states don't require any degree to homeschool your children, others have recently begun to require a bachelors in Education.  I agree that you should check with your state's Board of Education.

  10. There are NO states that require a Bachelor's of Education degree. While some states do have a college level requirement (for high school comes to mind for one of them), there is always a way to homeschool under one option or another without any college.
