  1. I think the best way to learn about and find jobs for a biomedical engineer is to go to the job search engines such as Career Builder, Indeed, etc. and use "biomedical engineer" or "biomedical engineering" as the search criterion.  Click on any of the positions that come up to get a description and to see what the requirements are to get the position.

In general look for positions that accept zero ( 0 ) to 2 years of experience or you can add "entry level" to your search criterion to narrow it down. Use every means at your disposal to get help including professors, BMES contacts, internship contacts, career services, etc.

Finding the job is the first step.  Getting it is a different proposition.  You need to be realistic about just what you have been prepared to do and apply to those jobs that match your skill set.  Hiring managers typically look for a new hire to fill a particular engineering specialty area who also has biomedical engineering knowledge.  Generally you will have a better chance if you have a minor, concentration, specialty or track in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, bioreactors, biomechanics, biochemistry, or microbiology.

  2. He could check Millipore. They engineer and manufacture medical filters. Fairly big company, too.
