What does my insurance cover?

my grandpa just cosigned me for a 2003 jetta so i take it home in less the 24 hours of driving it off the lot i got in a accident my fault so it eas under the cosigners insurance isn't there some law that says the have to fix because its autmatically covered by them for 72 hours or something

  1. Since your grandfather also purchased the car - it may be covered under his policy. Or if you had a policy of your own- it may be covered.

    In general, an insurance policy will give the vehicle owner a limited amount of time to add a new vehicle to the policy.  

    The only thing you can do is file a claim and see what happens.

  3. If he was the cosignor his name would have been in the second posistion car would be registerted to you. If that is the case you needed to insure the car, tech by law the dealer should not have let you off the lot without insurance. It seems that the insurance should have been in your name already you will be paying for that car for a long time have fun. slow down and pay attention.

  4. Is your grandfather insured with his own car?  It is possible his auo insurance company covers him if he buys another car for a certain amount of time.

  5. Cosigning a loan doesn't mean that the car is automatically covered under the cosigner's insurance.  Did you have insurance in place or not?
