After I got my 2 wisdom teeth removed they gave me some medicine and one of them is oxycodone. I have to take it 4-6 hours as needed.

After I take it I feel weak, tired, and drowzy.

Is it suppose to do that?

  1. it helps with the pain.  Yes you will feel tire, drowsy and probably a little loopy too.  It is a heavy duty pain med so yes it will do that to you.  Some people who take it want that feeling so that's why they take it to get that feeling of being "high" instead of the way it is supposed to be used which is for helping with pain.

  2. Yes, it's supposed to do that. Opiate receptors in the brain ease pain, pause emotional attachment, and slow the central nervous system.

Everyone seems to think you'll get addicted just from taking the prescribed dose. If I could roll my eyes over the internet I would...

  3. Yes

Its an opiate - a codeine derivative and can be highly abused.

  4. You're lucky it's not doing you any worse. That stuff is highly addictive. Take some extra strength tylenol or tylenol 3 if you have it and use an ice pack. I don't think your wisdom teeth being pulled should take that much of a pain killer.
