i noticed some dvds have [p&s] next to the dvd title. i'm assuming it is a format of the dvd since it is more expensive then [ws] format. [ws] means widescreen. so what does p&s mean? (pan and scan??) if it means pan and scan what does that do? it is not full screen?? why does it cost so much more that ws??

  1. Yeah, its not full screen (as in full wide screen)

    P&S is Pan and Scan.

Which means that the scanned or upconverted or resized and they will pan the 4:3 frame across the 16:9 frame as needed.

Dont get these P&S movies because they are garbage. Back in the day, dvd players couldn't do this, but now, all dvd players sold do the pan+scan procedure automatically, preserving your widescreen copy. You can toggle pan&scan off on the dvd player yourself, you do not need to buy, literally half a movie cut longways to do it for you...

I assume they cost more because the require extra processing on the part of the studio and they are not as popular because dvd players do the pan and scan so people just buy widescreen.
