  1. there are tiny slits vertically made in the lens. If you turn the glasses sideways but keep looking straight, the darkness of the glasses will fade.  They block UV rays I believe - which are bad for yer eyes : )

  2. Polarized lenses eliminate (almost completely) GLARE from flat (horizontal) surfaces like roads, car surfaces, and water.

What this means is that on the water the white relective glare that prevents you frome seeing into the water is removed. The same goes with road surfaces on very bright days, and chrome bumpers, etc.

Simpley put, polarized means glare eliminating. And all glare is, is light in certain spots being 20 times (i think thats the right number) brighter than the surrounding light causing a white-out effect. Very difficult to see through glare.

  3. Compared to ordinary sunglasses looking about the same darkness, polarised glasses will be more effective against a bright blue sky away from the horizon, and certain types of reflected light, such as off the surface  of water.

(there, the light has an extra property: vibrating in one particular plane, polarity, which humans can't detect, but some insect eyes can.  This extra feature lets these rays be selectively blocked by glasses designed to do so)

To check if sunglasses are really polarised take two pairs, hold them front to front, and then rotate one pair through 90 degrees around the centre of one lens.  It should almost totally black out.

  4. Polorized sunglasses does not give off a reflection whem looking at things like water!
