  1. When Paul described our spiritual armory in Ephesians 6, he noted that we gird our waist with truth. This, to those who understand armor, is the belt on which all weapons are hung (such as the sword sheathe).

"Holding the truth in love" means to utilize these weapons of warfare, but to make sure you are fighting the enemy in protection of your fellow soldiers. It is for love of country that our soldiers go to war. It is for love of one another that we do the same.

  2. Paul here is exhorting the believers that truth is vital to the unity of the faith which is only found in the true knowledge of Christ. Since God is love (Agape) that unity can only be achieved through his Spirit that is at work through the true followers of Jesus.

That then brings us to the question - Where is this unity in the numerous Churches claiming to be followers of Christ? Why so much differing understanding of God's truth amongst professing Christians? Certainly there can only be but one truth. Truth, by it's very definition, proclaims there is only one. Jesus said "Sanctify them by thy truth, thy word is truth".

I might be wrong but apparently many "Christians" are missing out on the sanctification process.

Sorry to ramble but I am not into a mushy, your Ok, I'm Ok, Gospel. The Jesus that I am growing up into is returning to this Earth to straiten out the mess of lies that man has turned the Truth into. Yes, he is returning to rule with a rod of iron.

  3. Your question made me read some material concerning this verse, thanks just read it now :) Paul says that we need to hold on to the truth, not to any false teaching or lies of men. We need to focus on Christ who has the truth. Only He is the truth and reality, everything else is vanity. We need to hold on to this truth by His love, the love of Christ, not by our natural love. When we love this truth by the love of Christ we are grounded more into this truth and we are able to love each other also with the love of Christ.

And as we hold on to this truth we grow in Him. Our growth should be in the Lord, with Christ as our focus. When we grow into anything that's not of the Lord, that will cause divisions among us. All the believers need to grow together as one, with all focussing only as Christ and holding Him as the Head.

  4. You know, you and your friends Strawberry and Jimmy giving each other best answers all the time is points gaming and against the terms of service.

    Is cheating a sin?

  5. The verse in KJV reads speaking the truth in love. When we tell others let us remember that we need to love their souls and in all things we should always strive to see the lost saved and the saints edified. If we understand what we are to do we should always do it with love for others. Paul said in 1Cor. 13:13 Faith, Hope, and Charity(love). the greatest is love. If we have the faith that comes from salvation, the hope that springs from faith, and the love for all that comes from God in us we can do all things. The growing part is the ongoing process of sanctification that commences at salvation and goes on until the day the Lord calls us home. The previous verse says to be no more children being tossed to and fro. This is growth!
