I know its a processor but I need to know where did it get its name

  1. It's just a trade name. It plays on the word "accelerate", making you think the thing is fast.  The "-on" suffix is usually used to denote a machine.  It's the same way they give cars cutsie names such as "Achieva" and "Integra".  It's all marketing.


  2. Each processor from Intel (or AMD) are normally given a name, such as Kentsfield, these names can come from any source, most are names of places, but sometime manufactures could choose names from a person, or a combination of multiple names so they may end up meaning nothing at all.

  3. I think it's made up.  Kinda like car manufacturers do.  I checked Merriam-Webster online and it says "The word you've entered isn't in the dictionary."

  4. It's Swahili for "Cheap"

    Not really.  Celeron is just a low end processor from Intel.  AMD had the Duron for the Low end.a
