  1. It means that your team has a "free" opportunity to play the ball.  Your opponent can not attack the ball.  The setter heads toward their position and will not play defense.  This is particularly true if your team runs a 6-2.

You may also hear "down" ball which is where you opponent is still attacking the ball while "down" on the ground.  No jump involved.  The setter is supposed to stay and play defense first.

  2. free ball

kinda like pop fly in baseball

means its gunna go to anyone

  3. It means that it is a high hit..where the person of the opposing team didnt spike it...it just means that it is anybody's ball and that it is not gonna be hard....

  4. the ball is coming over the net and not being spiked

  5. the other tea bumped the ball over the net and its anyones ball. they say it to get everyones attention

  6. It means that the ball is coming back over the net not hard driven (spiked)...the other team has just bumped it over.

  7. When everyone on your team screams FREE! It usually involves the ball not being spiked over on the third hit, instead the other team is setting or bumping the ball over... giving you a FREE chance at a hit/spike back! hope this helps you.

  8. It means the other team was unable to attack the ball in order to send it over the net. Your team should be able to make a good pass and attack the ball back to the other side.

  9. When someone yells free, it means the ball is coming back over the net lightly. The opposing team is unable to get a good set or has to save a ball so they bump it or set it back over which is "open" for any player on your team to get because it's not going straight to backrow or straight to front row on a tip. By yelling this it lets your team know the ball is going to be an easy one over and just to pay attention to it.

  10. When the third hit coming over the net is anything but a spike.  Normally its a bump.

  11. It means that the ball is coming back over by a bump (they are NOT spiking) for any more ?s on vball email me!

  12. Its whenh the ball is coming over as a set or a bump (It is not a spike). I hope this helps!

  13. when the ball is coming over

  14. it means that it is a free ball and u transition sooo that is a free ball

  15. when the opposite team bumps the ball over the net

  16. unlike what some people think it does NOT mean that they are not spiking it. it means they are not "attacking" the ball. they are not going to "shoot" it over the net w/ both hands or something like that.

    hope this helps

  17. Once the ball has been served over the net and the other team does not spike it over but may bump it , its considered free

  18. when your team yells FREE they mean that the ball will come back over the net by a pass from the other team, this usually happens when the other team has an out of system play that is not able to be fixed into a proper pass, set, hit play.

when you do receive a free ball its usually the best idea to let the libero/Defensive specialist take it and for your hitters to make their way to the net.
