What does "Indigent People" mean?

Absolutely poor, someone who has nothing.

"The city has opened a new centre to help the indigent. There will be a shelter, a soup kitchen, a clothing bank and employment advice."

Not to be confused with "indigenous" which means "native."

indigent= poor and needing help from others.

You use it the same way as you would use the word "poor" or "destitute".
