  1. You know, if you have spelled it correctly, it can't really be Spanish.  It is not possible to put an ll before another consonant.

Pullman was they guy who invented the sleeping car for trains.   You've heard of a Pullman car or the Pullman porters' strike at the end of the 19th century in the US?  That's who the reference is, there.   So, Pullman is sort of synonymous with travel altogether.  And tur is Spanish for Tour.  So, and I'm just guessing here, but I think it's the Pullman name attached to the word for tour, trying to conjure up the image of travelling, and maybe travelling in luxury.  That's just a guess, mind you, but there's some logic behind it...:)

  2. Pullmantur was originally just a travel agency... Actually it was one of the pioneers of spanish tourism. The company exists since before 1966 (I don't know what year it was founded, but when I arrived in Spain in 1966 for the first time it was already here.)..

As Sue says, it is a composite name formed by Pullman (as in the train compartments which in Europe were called Wagons Lit) and the spanish spelling of the word TOUR.

In recent years they have branched out into cruises and flights besides bus tours.

Pullmantur has also branched out into latin american countries (Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras).
