What does "Reconquista" mean to you?

I've heard it mentioned on here a few times, but I'm not sure what they mean by it. Honestly! I've never heard this until I read those comments. Is it something current? or OLD news from back in the day that people dig up and try to make it current because of the immigration issues today?

  1. It means Mexican racism against whites.

  2. Reconquista is a racist mexican idea still very much alive to take the southwest by any means necessary from the "gringos" aka white people. I think you're fibbing Tony, I'm quite sure you know exactly what it means and have for a very long time.

  3. To me, it's a bunch of people with the same ethics as the the dog in "The Little Red Hen":  Too "tired" to help plant the corn, weed the corn, water the corn, pick the corn, thresh the corn, dry the corn, grind the cornmeal, or make the batter.... but they DEMAND a piece of the cornbread once it's baked.

They didn't live in or help to build this nation, so they have no claim to it as far as I'm concerned.

  4. To me it means someone spiked the punch. It's not happening, it won't happen and there isn't a movement to make it happen. I've talked to many an illegal and received the same reaction...an are you crazy look. Then laughs. I'm sure it's been discussed by some radical college professor that's allowed insanity to rot his brain or wanting to publish a paper but please...illegals are here because of the opportunities and better living conditions than available in their land, why on earth would they want it the same here? Would the Somali refugees want to turn freedom to starvation once again? God I hate these people that talk about that type of thing like they know what these people want. It's pseudo do gooders with too much money and time on their hands thinking up radical thoughts. They probably want to become King or something in their new found land. Don't take it seriously

  5. it's the mexicans who think that they deserve the southwest given back to them and they are purposely coming here in droves and having tons of babies and so by doing that they think they can take over that area by sheer number.  if anyone should get land back it's the native americans which i'm part of and not the mexicans who lost land fair and square in a war.  it's like get over it already!  they should feel proud and fortunate to be in this country and should not try and make this the corrupted place that they came from!

    dude, jus google the word

OKay, well i doubt its an actual word in the english dictionary. its a word where its meaning is only relative to the context its used in, an so has no usage or meaning outside the scope

  7. reconquista.

    hmm.

it came from the words "re" (which means "again") and "conquista" (which means "to conquer/conquest"). so it simply means reconquer or reconquest. whichever.

and yes, you're quite right that it's some old news brought back to be talked about again. to reconquer, revisit, relive.

like some jazzed-up story in journalism. ;p

    hope that helps.

    ^^

    :)

  8. it sounds to me like it is someone who is reconquering what belonged to them before

  9. The original Reconquista is the name given to a part of Old World Spanish history during which the kingdoms of Spain took back the lands that were invaded and occupied by the Muslims.

Today and when it comes to the USA and Mexico, it refers to the concept where certain Mexican militants suggest that the parts of the USA that belonged to Mexico should be reconquered in one way or another. It is analog to the idea of restoring Aztlan and born out of 70s Chicano nationalism. Different names for the same thing. It doesn't have to be a forcible process, it could be one (and that's a likely scenario) where Hispanics become so numerous that they take control back of lands that once were Mexican without actually doing anything to the political borders of the USA and Mexico.

The analogy between the Old World Reconquista and the Mexican Reconquista is obvious: the natives wishing to take back the lands taken from them by what they consider to be invaders.
