What does "Unlimited domestic drinks" in an "all inclusive Resort" mean?

We're planning on going on an all inclusive vacation in Jamaica. The particular Resort we picked is a little unclear about their description - one travel site says "unlimited domestic drinks...another one "Unlimited beverages at any of the eight bars". Does it include alcohol and if so can you really drink all you want at any of the bars and wine with dinner etc?

"It also states it includes all hotel taxes and gratuities" Does that mean we don't have to worry about tipping?

  1. "Unlimited domestic drinks" means all the Jamaican alcohol you can manage and then some.  "Unlimited beverages at any of the eight bars" means they have 8 bars and you can drink anything, not just Jamaican, until you can't even make it back to your room.  I don't know of any Jamaican wines but if it's an upscale all inclusive wine is probably included at dinner.  Ask the reception desk what alcohol is included for free.  As for the "all hotel taxes and gratuities", that means you don't have to tip anyone anything period.  Some resorts forbid their employees to accept tips and will actually fire employees that accept them.  Other resorts encourage tips though it's not required.  Again, ask the reception desk.  To enjoy the true culture of Jamaicamon, you have to leave the resort and get to meet the people, enjoy real local food.  Don't leave the security at the edge of the property discourage you from leaving with all their horror stories about crime.  Chances are you probably are going to buy t-shirts, souvenirs, etc and the resort wants the 200% plus markup which they will get if they convince you their property is the only safe area around.  Enjoy.

  2. Yes that means you can drink alcohol until you fall off your bar stool or pool stool! What's good about this All-Inclusive plan is you can try many different types of drinks never having to worry about wasting money if you don't like it. Just note that depending on the resort they may have generic alcohol versus some resorts have premium liquor. You can also get house wine at the dinner.

No you don't have to tip - it's at your discretion. Sometimes I tip the bellman, the maid, and maybe a good bartender but it is not mandatory!

  3. All domestic drinks mean anything from that country. You can drink all the Jamaican Rum you want unlimited beverages means you can drink american coca cola. Includes gratuities does mean it includes tips, but take a bunch of single dollar bills with you to spread around you will get better service. Give a dollar or two or three to the guy who takes care of the beach chairs, and the guy who takes care of the beach toys,  leave a dollar or two in the room for the housekeeper. The staff at the resort will still see you as being much better off than they are and YOU ARE better off. Take a look at the resort's web site and do budget for a few trips off the grounds. Enjoy your trip.

  4. unlimited local alcohol
