  1. I once went to an open house type deal for the Coffee Bean. It was held in a conference type room at a hotel/restaurant. Basically, I went in and there were a bunch of people from management and corporate who travel around holding open houses for hiring. I went in and signed up and then went around to a couple tables talking to different people from the company. It was basically a casual on the spot interview. They also talked about the job and the company. I didn't get a call back from it, so I don't know if they called back for second more personal interviews or not.

  2. An "open house" means that anyone can go in and apply for jobs. It's just like having and "open house" when you are selling a house. The real estate agent is there but the owners are not. As for interviewing on the spot, depends on that store policies. You don't need an appointment to apply for a job.
