Question:

What does "divine revelation" mean?

I'm (re-)writing a thesis on the five major world religions, and a website I visited mentioned that the Jewish view of the role of God in salvation is "divine revelation and forgiveness." I think I understand what the "forgiveness" part was referring to (unless there's some underlying philosophical, grammatical, or otherwise thing I'm somehow missing), but I'm not certain what divine revelation means.

Please only give me facts and a definition. Religious beliefs do not count as facts unless they give me an understanding of the belief. Example: "God will give us all divine revelation and (insert long useless religious rant here)." Please only give me something that will help me with my research.

  1. "Divine revelation" means God (or a god, depending on the religion) told somebody.  "Divine" meaning "from a god" and revelation as in to reveal something.
