What does "explaining the kind of conflict" mean...?

Where there is conflict, there are two opposing sides.  There are many types of conflict.  In sociology, conflict theory refers to power struggles.  Ask yourself this:  who or what is opposing or competing with each other?  That should give you some insight into the "kind" of conflict it is.  Perhaps it's a social one, maybe it's economic, or something else?
