What does"lilies of the filed" mean in the bible ?

In context, I think that Jesus was trying to make a point using the image of the lillies of the field.

He said that they are naturally beautiful and don't really have to work at it: God made them that way.

But, King Solomon, for all his wealth and wisdom and effort, could not come close to being as good looking as one of these common field flowers that can't even weave or sew fabric.
