    If you think about meaning you realize that what "mean" means is how would you use something.  So "mean" means "how is it used".  There is also the auxiliary meaning of what is the context or environment.

  8. Thats a funny question - i think it means 'being nasty' or like... harsh (meanness) but my mum thinks it means 'being tight with money' or like stingy.

    Or, of course, it could be the average of something or it could be mean as in the meaning of a word? i really can't think how to describe that. I suppose you could say - the explanation.
