What does "more or less" mean when you ask someone how things are going with him?

  1. It depends how its been used. For example, if someone has drawn something and they want to know if they've got the picture in the right proportion and they've kind of got it then the person might so "blah blah blah.more or less". Another example is if someone asks of a definition of something, and the person may not give a completely clear definition, then another person may say "more or less".........kind of meaning sort of............

  3. He says good, more or less.  It means he is having a good day but may have had some things that made part of his day better or worse.

Well, back in the day when things were measured on a scale, it might be a little light compared to the gold.... and because they did not have the accurate measurement technique  down to the milli gram,  they would say it is ...."more or less"...  ... meaning... "it's good enough to be accurate"
