People just like to be cute and say the same word twice.  You should listen to "Best, Best" by Missy Elliott.  She says everything twice in that song.

It's not silly to me.  It's a child's way of saying good night.

I never thought about that until we went to see my husband's family in Russia - they say "bye bye" for a child's way of saying goodnight.  Here in America, bye bye is good bye.

It's funny, how different things sound to different people, huh?
