What does "petal to the metal" means?

there is a saying in motor racing that is "pedal to the metal" which means accelerate, as the pedal goes down into the car.

i dont think "petal to the metal" is a saying. nor do i think that this has anything to do with flowers or botany

Not sure what "petal to the metal" means but "pedal to the metal" means pushing the accelerator to the floor on a motor vehicle ( eg car or truck)
