  1. It should mean that they are allowed to stay on bail,  that they are remanded on the bail that aparently ahs already been set,  if he was to stay in custody, then it should have read  * remanded in custody*

    The 1976 Bail Act

Reflecting the fundamental principle that an individual is considered innocent until proven guilty, the Bail Act 1976 asserts a presumption in favour of bail for all people awaiting trial except those on charges of murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, rape or attempted rape. The legislation presumes that an individual will be remanded on bail unless there are strong reasons to hold them into custody. These include:

ALSO:   Remand on Bail: The defendant is released from physical restraints, but has various conditions imposed.

  3. In the UK "remanded" basically means ordered to appear at Court at some future date. You can be held in custody pending that date or "on bail" i.e you are free to go home (or to some other address acceptable to the Police or the Court) but must appear at Court on the relevant date or you commit another (seperate) offence. You can be remanded by the Police after arrest and charge or remanded by the Magistrates if they decide that your case requires more than one hearing.

  4. It means that the accused is released on bail until the time of their trial.

If they had been remanded in custody then they would have to wait for their trial in prison.

  5. Remand means they are held in jail awaiting trial.

Bail is the security to assure they will appear for trial.

If they are remanded on bail it means they are in jail because they have not posted bail so they can be released.

  6. Remanded on bail means that the accused person has been allowed to go home having paid their bail bond or fee and that they will return at a later date for trial etc.
