What does "schwarzenegger" mean?

I would seem that "Schwarzenegger" might be an Austrian dialectal form of "Scwarzen Ecke(r)" meaning "black corner(s)".

"schwarzen" : 'black', 'swarthy'

"egger" : 'field', cfr. Modern German "Acker" and English "acre", or maybe 'plowman', 'man who uses a set of harrows'

neger with one n means: n e g r o.

Negger isn't in my German dictionary.

"Schwarze" means "black" in German. "Negger" doesn't seem to mean anything, but it could be a dialect.

Edit: "Neger" means "n*gro," which makes sense... Ironic last name for a white man, though.

most everyone split the name in the wrong place, as i expected...

anyone familiar with German would know that it's "Schwarzen/egger", NOT "Schwarze/negger".

"Egger" itself is also a last name found in Austria, and i believe it's a variant of a Standard German word; unfortunately, i don't know what it is...
