Question:

What does "shao" mean in brazilian portuguese?

it sounds like "shao". a persons been trying to explain this to me in portuguese several ways but no luck.

they said "when someone has nothing"........"when someone doesnt have a chair or other things in the house

it sounds like "shao" or "shaon"

She's probably saying " Chao" which is pronounced like shao... in the context that you wrote " when someone has nothing"...Is like saying when someone doesn't have a " chao" a (floor/ ground ) , in other words if don't have a chair , you fall on the ground ( chao), and if don't have any furniture on your house, you have only it's floor ( without rugs, etc).
